Reading the frescoes

Stories painted on the walls

The rock church and chapels contain scenes from the Bible and depictions related to the lives of Jesus and Mary. Before naming individual scenes, notice their position, light and state of conservation within the building.

Help protect them during your visit

Frescoes are fragile surfaces. Do not touch them, check the rules for flash and equipment, keep passageways open and follow staff guidance.
