DIGITAL HERITAGE · 27.10.2026
Photogrammetry and 3D modelling offer new ways to document complex sites such as Sumela. Digital records support research and conservation, while they do not replace the experience of the stone, valley and physical site.
Documentation, conservation and access
Photogrammetric models can support measurement, comparison and archiving, allowing researchers and visitors to study the same complex at different scales.
A complement to the physical experience
A digital model cannot fully convey the texture of stone, the atmosphere of the valley or the pace of the real route. Its best use is to connect an on-site visit with reliable documentation.
Explore with care
Respecting the place is part of experiencing Sumela. Take your litter with you, follow staff guidance and leave room for other visitors to enjoy the surroundings.
